What is a certified Native Hawaiian business?
A certified Native Hawaiian business is a business that is at least 50% owned or controlled by Native Hawaiians, who have had their ancestry verified via one of the services or agencies below. We also welcome nonprofits to create a listing in the directory if their Board of Directors is at least 50% Native Hawaiian, and their ancestry has been verified.
Why certification is important
Our certified directory members will have access to our certification logo and the benefits and services our nonprofit provides, furthering our mission "to empower the Native Hawaiian community and improve our collective livelihoods and the life of the land through self-led economic development." Your customers and clients will also have the confidence of knowing they are doing business with and supporting a certified Native Hawaiian business!
How to Get Certified
We’re trying to make this process as easy as possible! We want to offer as many ancestry verification options as we can to help you and your business become a certified Native Hawaiian business! Choose just one of the options below to get certified!
Already verified?
The use of third party verification by the Kanaka Economic Development Alliance is not an endorsement of any one organization or that organization’s registration process and uses. Information submitted to the Kanaka Economic Development Alliance for ancestry verification will not be shared with any third parties without your explicit permission.
Register with the Office of Hawaiian Affairs
Fill out a form and provide OHA with a few documents, and you will receive a Hawaiian Registry card. Submit a copy of your card below via our universal certification form, and you're certified! Already have a valid card? Great! Submit a copy today.
Verify your ancestry with Kamehameha Schools
Fill out a form and provide documents to KS. You will receive a letter verifying your ancestry. Submit a copy of that letter through our universal certification form. Have you already had your ancestry verified with KS? Great! Just submit a copy of the letter, and you're certified!
Verify your ancestry with the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands
If you have a letter from DHHL (or you are on the waitlist), submit your information through our universal certification form, and you'll be certified!
Verify your ancestry with Kanaʻiolowalu
Are you already on the Kanaʻiolowalu List? Let us know via our universal certification form, and we'll get you certified ASAP!
