Wailua Nui Kalo Farm is a kalo farm located in East Maui, offering fresh poi and our specialty, Kalo Candy.

Aloha kakou!
Welcome to Wailua Nui Kalo Farm LLC, owned and operated by Krystal Cabiles, David Kekiwi, and our three keiki, serving the people of Maui.
We offer fresh poi and our specialty, Kalo Candy, a recipe passed down to us by Krystal’s grandmother. Kalo Candy is a delicious sweet kalo “pudding” with chunks of nutritious whole kalo. It can be eaten hot or cold, as a dessert or snack, and lasts up to 5-7 days when refrigerated and 3-6 months when frozen.
ABOUT US
In March 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit and the quarantine mandate was issued, we found ourselves reflecting on how disconnected we had become from our traditional practices. We finally had the time to contemplate our futures and come together as ‘ohana, return to David’s ‘ohana ‘aina, and re-open loʻi kalo, which had not been used in over a decade. As a result, Wailua Nui Kalo Farm was established in January 2021 by David Kekiwi, 4th generation farmer and Krystal Cabiles, with the initial goal of securing a food source for our ‘ohana, as well as a source of income, while also offering an outlet for educating our keiki in farming and sustainability without the use of electronics.
